Biggest shopping mall chain in the country, SM Supermalls, is doing well in Mindanao as the company enjoyed 9 percent revenue growth in the island-region surpassing the total revenue of other SM malls in Luzon by 7 percent. The company is currently operating four malls in Mindanao, namely SM City Davao, SM City Cagayan de Oro, SM City General Santos, and SM Lanang Premier. Two more malls are slated to open soon which are SM CDO Downtown Premier and SM City Butuan while three more are eyed for construction.
Oliver John R. Tiu, vice-president for operations, said in a press conference here that the company is eyeing 15 additional malls nationwide to attain its vision of setting up 75 malls in the country at the end of 2018.

Mindanao has a strong economy and it caters expanding middle class. Mindanao's poverty incidence dropped from 41.2% last 2012 to 36.2% in 2015. The 5.1% decrease is the highest drop so far since 2006.
