DAVAO CITY- Two big cities in Mindanao, Davao and Cagayan de Oro are set to host several meetings and discussions for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) this year 2017 as scheduled in the 2017 ASEAN Notional Calendar of Meetings/Events posted on January 12, 2017 by asean.org website.
Accordingly, most of the events in Davao will be held at Marco Polo Hotel while the venue for Cagayan de Oro is not yet disclosed. ASEAN government officials and business leaders are expected to attend the meetings which will boost tourism and economy for both cities. Cagayan de Oro will host Socio-Cultural Community Council (SOCA) Meeting on July 10-11, 2017. On the other hand, Davao City will host several events such as ASEAN Senior Level Committee on Finance Integration (SLC), ASEAN Finance and Central Bank Deputies Meeting (AFCDM-WG), and ASEAN Capital Markets Forum, to name a few.

The Philippines will be the host and the chairman this year. One of the important activities, the launching of Philippines' chairmanship of ASEAN will be held in SMX Convention Center at Davao City on January 15. The event will not only highlight Philippine economy but will also prove that Mindanao is safe enough to hold big events such as this.
