Mindanao poverty incidence decreased by 5.1%. This is according to the latest data supplied by Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA). From 41.2% last 2012, poverty incidence went down to 36.2%, the highest drop so far since 2006. However, Mindanao remained to have the highest poverty incidence among three group of islands in the country.
It can be recalled that PSA has identified the 10 areas with the highest poverty incidence per family last year. Four of them are provinces of Mindanao, namely, Lanao del Sur (67.3 percent), North Cotabato (44.8), Zamboanga del Norte (48), and Maguindanao (54.5).
The Department of Agriculture (DA) assured that the agency will focus on these poor provinces as part of President Rodrigo Duterte’s programs to alleviate poverty.
