DAVAO CITY- “Davao has in effect become the capital of the Philippines in the south,” - these are the words of businessman and incoming Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. (DCCCII) president Ronald Go as mentioned in a Manila Bulletin article dated February 19, 2017. Davao City, the largest city in the Philippines has grown by seven percent in terms of businesses registration that totaled 39,887, with capitalization of P232.886 billion as of third quarter in 2016.

The presidency of former Davao City mayor Rodrigo Duterte had made an effect in rising number of investments in the city. According to Davao City Investment Promotions Center (DCIPC) officer-in-charge (OIC) Lemuel G. Ortonio, President Duterte, has become the major draw for investments.

With the new president who won a landslide victory last May 2016, massive infrastructure projects such as the Davao Monorail, Davao International Airport upgrade, and the Mega Harbor Project, which worth a total of more than P100 billion, will be a stone's throw away from realization.
