The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in cooperation with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) finally started a month-long feasibility study on the Leyte-Surigao bridge project.
The study will also cover another bridge project that will link Leyte and Bohol in Visayas.
DPWH Southern Leyte District Engineer Ma. Maragarita C. Junia disclosed that the JICA team arrived in Southern Leyte on February 12, 2018 to begin their study on the long span bridges.
It can be recalled that MEB reported on February 8 that Southern Leyte Representative Roger Mercado filed House Bill 6756 mandating the government to finance the construction of bridge connecting Surigao and Leyte island.
Accordingly, the project in general is an initial step in the realization of the government's ambitious plan to connect the islands of Leyte and Bohol as well as with Mindanao islands.
